Welcome To Sparkman High School Theatre
The SHS Theatre program is self-funded and raises over $30,000 each year in order to continue producing a show the following year. Over the past ten years the theatre program has performed Aladdin, Jekyll & Hyde, Little Shop of Horrors, A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum, Once Upon A Mattress, High School Musical, Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Footloose the Musical, The Addams Family, Singin' In The Rain, and West Side Story. Our Director
Cody Carlton

Cody Carlton (www.CodyCarlton.com) is a multiple award-winning actor, director, designer, and educator. He has served as the Executive Artistic Director of CharACTers Theatrics for the past 15 years. He holds an M.A. in Theatre Arts from Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA and a B.S. in English Language Arts Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL.
His directing resume includes more than 60 productions, including Big Fish the Musical, Spamalot, Peter Pan, Ragtime, Shrek the Musical, Mary Poppins - winner of two International Music and Entertainment Awards (IMEA) in 2016, and Les Miserables - winner of three IMEA Theatre awards in 2015.
As an actor, Cody has played roles including Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (Best Actor winner - 2019), Romeo in Romeo and Juliet (Best Actor winner 2006), and Jesus in Godspell (Best Actor winner 2016) as well as more than 50+ other roles on the stage.
Cody has received training from director Jeff Calhoun (Broadway – Newsies, Bonnie and Clyde, Jekyll and Hyde), scenic and costume designer Tobin Ost (Broadway – Disaster!, Newsies, Brooklyn), creator and producer Phil Vischer (VeggieTales), and Dramaturg and Literary Manager for Disney Theatrical Group, Ken Cerniglia.
For the 2017-2018 academic year, Cody was honored as the system-wide Teacher of the Year. He has worked at the local level with the Equal Justice Initiative founded by Bryan Stevenson, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and the United Way.
Cody has taught acting, theatrical design, and theatre history at both the collegiate and secondary education levels since 2015.
His proudest accomplishment is being the father of Jack Elias Carlton.
